Social Action
In March of 1913, just six weeks after its founding, several Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated boldly participated in the historic Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C., proudly carrying the Sorority’s banner. This became Delta’s first public act of social advocacy—a legacy that continues today.
More than a century later, the fight for equal access and participation in the democratic process remains critical. Low voter turnout across communities underscores the importance of creating opportunities for all citizens to exercise their right to vote.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. continues to advance this mission through intentional advocacy and public engagement. Each of the Sorority’s programmatic initiatives includes a social action component—mobilizing members to speak out, show up, and serve when it is both appropriate and necessary to do so.
